April 30 my husband, kids, and I left for Orlando Florida for a cheerleading competition and to spend a few days at Disney. When I am with my family I try to be 100% with them and not on my phone. I have a 13 and 10 year old and they are always on their's so I want to model the right behavior and give my full attention to them.
I also have been struggling with social media. I am an empath. I pick up other people's energy and moods very easily. I see so many on Facebook still venting every single day and it's always the same people. I believe in freedom of speech and get it but It started to wear me down. I would mute people and unfollow and still seeing so many posts that didn't bring me joy, educate, or make me happy. The funny thing with Facebook is how my daughters cheer communicates so I have to check for that. Once the Summit competition was over, I was not on Facebook. It felt AMAZING!!!!
With Instagram I usually enjoy it. It is more people sharing happy things, pictures of their family, inspiring quotes and so on. However, It started to wear me down too because I am an online business and "they" tell us to post 3 times a day, post reels, do lives, an about me page, more selfies, etc. First of all taking selfies are not me. I also fell into the imposter syndrome and comparing myself to other's in the health coaching and yoga/fitness industry. I knew I needed a deep digital reset and to get back to my thoughts, my why am I coaching and teaching in the first place.
I realized I was posting stories and going through my morning just as a check it off my list kind of thing and not really being present when I meditated, practiced breath work, and so on.
When I really got back to myself, slowing down I was able to fully meditate, work on my breathing techniques, and come back to my why.
I also took part in a virtual coaching festival & Expo. It had some of the top names in the health and coaching biz like Gabrielle Bernstein, Marie Forleo, Samantha Skelly, Challene Johnson, and so many others. I knew this is where my passion is. I have two amazing careers that I am able to be creative. I love working at McVay Media and I love building my own business in the health and wellness industry.
Sometimes you need to take a break from all the outside noise, we have enough noise in our minds as is. I highly recommend a social media and digital detox every now and then.
I also recommend slowing down, we get caught up in the busyness of life and our to do list we need to remember to hit the pause and take a break and listen to what we need and want. Check in with yourself and ask yourself what is your why?
